Bonus Material for Episode 75
A few extra items in memory of Jean Rabe
My deepest thanks go out to last week’s guests—Stephen D. Sullivan, Kevin Melka, and Anne K. Brown—for helping to honor and remember the life and career of Jean Rabe. It was a terrific conversation, and I learned things about Jean that I hadn’t previously known. If you missed the livestream, you can catch up with Episode 75 or any of the past episodes at the show’s online archive.
After the show, Kevin sent me a few items that I think may be of interest. First was a link to the Internet Archive’s collection of PDFs of most of the 171 issues of Polyhedron Magazine.
Next, Kevin sent a scan of the “Notes from HQ” page from Jean’s very first issue of Poly—number 34.
And finally, during our conversation we talked about how much work Jean did in support of charities—particularly those supporting dogs and other animals. No one could remember the name of the particular service dog organization that the RPGA used to raise money for, but Kevin found this photo that memorialized one of those efforts.
Thanks again to the members of the panel and the many friends of Jean who were in the live chat room during the show. Jean is definitely one of the too often unsung heroes of the early days of our hobby, and she will most dearly be missed.
