Homage: 2014
The cartoon homage to 2014's 5E Monster Manual cover is finished ... and subscribers get to see it first!
During Episode 44’s conversation with Ed Greenwood, Stan! began a cartoon homage to Raymond Swanland’s cover for the 5E Monster Manual (2014). Unfortunately, technical difficulties during the recording kept him from finishing even the basic sketch as part of the show … and the holiday season was more distracting than estimated, so he only just finished the piece this week.
It’s a wonderfully moody painting—a dark night lit by a bolt of lightning, showing a shrieking beholder menacing a pair of adventurers. All those creepy shadows, however, are a challenge when trying to capture the characters in cartoon form. But the challenge was more than worth it in the end … at least we think so (and we hope you agree).
Of course, this isn’t the ONLY drawing that got delayed by the holiday season. There are currently five other cartoon homages in different states of completion, and Stan! is working hard to finish them up even as the show rolls along (and additional drawings are added to the queue). Keep your eyes peeled, friends. You should be seeing multiple updates in the coming weeks … and paid subscribers will, of course, ALSO see process videos for each one too.
