Process Video: 1978
Paid subscribers get access to this video showing the process of Stan! creating his cartoon homage to "A Paladin in Hell."
In Episode 6, Stan! talked with James M. Ward—one of only a few people who can truly claim to have been involved with Dungeons & Dragons from the very beginnings. He was introduced to the very first version of the game by Gary Gygax himself, was the designer of the first ever sci-fi roleplaying game (Metamorphosis Alpha), and served as the V.P. of Creative Services for TSR for more than ten years, only relinquishing that title when he was laid off a few months before the sale of the company to Wizards of the Coast.
As they conversed, Stan! laid out and created the line drawings of a cartoon homage to one of the most popular and inspirational pieces of art every to appear in the pages of a D&D product—Dave Sutherland’s full-page drawing of “A Paladin in Hell.”
You can go back to watch the episode on replay and see the line art for the cartoon homage come slowly together as Stan! and Jim chat. But below is a sped up process video capturing the whole thing (including the work done after the show ended) in less than a minute—exclusively for paid subscribers.
