Process Video: 2008
Here's a step-by-step video of the creation of Stan!'s cartoon homage from Episode 38.
I’m a big fan of Wayne Reynolds’s work (not just for D&D but all the work he’s done over the years for Pathfinder and other games, too). But it was just a few weeks ago that a friend pointed out an idiosyncrasy of his cover images—a common element that I never particularly noticed before.
In nearly every Wayne Reynolds cover painting, someone is always screaming. Not just “has their mouth open,” but gaping maw shouting at the top of their lungs screaming.
This homage to the 2008 D&D Character Record Sheets bundle is my third interpretation of one of Wayne’s covers—previously I did the 2004 D&D Basic Game and the 2006 D&D Player’s Kit—and in all of them at least one character is screaming so loud you almost expect spittle to be flying through the air.
Funny that I never noticed that before.
Subscribers to this newsletter got to see this drawing early, whereas the general public are only just getting their first glimpses of it today. But there’s still something left that’s JUST for the paid subscribers—a process video showing the step-by-step creation of this cartoon homage. (If you’re currently a free subscriber, now would be a great time to upgrade.)
