Sometimes a silly little idea can pack a lot of potential for fun, adventure, and even heroism. Such is the case for the adventure “Owlbear Run,” which was the feature article in Dungeon Magazine #213, and provided the art that Stan! interpreted as part of Episode 45 of our show.
Jason Juta’s cover painting captured the humor of the concept, as well as the danger of the situation that the PCs find themselves in. And like the adventure itself, the image has surprising depth. It answers questions you never knew you had like: How would you yoke an owlbear to a wagon?
It was as much fun to do an homage to this image as I imagine it must be to play through the adventure—in both cases that means A LOT!
Subscribers to this newsletter got to see this drawing early, whereas the general public are only just getting their first glimpses of it today. But there’s still something left that’s JUST for the paid subscribers—a process video showing the step-by-step creation of this cartoon homage.
