Daniel Horne was never on staff at TSR or Wizards of the Coast, and his name is often omitted when talking about the best D&D artists. It’s a shame that he’s not better remembered in this arena, because despite the relatively small sample size compared to artists like Easley, Elmore, and Lockwood, Horne’s paintings can be found on most curated lists of “greatest D&D covers.” Case in point: the cover painting for Dragon Magazine 126.

I began drawing this cartoon homage to that cover during Episode 171, and spent some time developing it during a recent Work in Progress episode.

Subscribers to this newsletter got to see this drawing early, whereas the general public are only just getting their first glimpses of it today. But there’s still something left that’s JUST for the paid subscribers—a process video showing the step-by-step creation of this cartoon homage. (If you’re currently a free subscriber, now would be a great time to upgrade.)
