When I began drawing it, this was the timeliest cartoon homage I’d ever done for the show. The image is my tip of the hat to Megan Lara’s cover for the 2025 Gen Con program book … and Episode 67 was streaming live the night before Gen Con officially began. (I say “officially” because anyone who’s attended the show knows that there’s LOTS of Gen Con related events happening on Wednesday evening … not the least of which being the Diana Jones Award ceremony.) I might not have been at the show … but this drawing was my way of being there in spirit.

Finding a ways to make Megan’s delicate, art nouveau image work in my minimalist, cartoony style was a bit tricky … but also a ton of fun. In the end, I think I came up with something that manages to have a foot in both worlds.

Subscribers to this newsletter got to see this drawing early, whereas the general public are only just getting their first glimpses of it today. But there’s still something left that’s JUST for the paid subscribers—a process video showing the step-by-step creation of this cartoon homage. (If you’re currently a free subscriber, now would be a great time to upgrade.)
