This Week: WiP Wednesday—2025 Gen Con Program
Join Stan! while he works on this cartoon homage.
The Gen Con Game Fair, also known as the Best Four Days in Gaming, takes place every summer in Indianapolis, IN. When I was working on staff at ANY of the game companies I’ve had the pleasure to have belonged to, attendance was mandatory … which was fine with me because it meant that my airfare, hotel, and food expenses were covered and “all I had to do” was promote the products I’d worked on and interact with the fans who love them.
In the years since going freelance, I’ve been lucky enough to occasionally get clients (or patrons) to pay for me to attend … but when I can’t get my costs covered, the truth is that in most years it’s just too expensive (in money and time) for me to go on my own. But I always WISH I could go … especially during the week of the show.
This year, on the Wednesday evening before Gen Con kicked off, I streamed Episode 67 where I talked with Jeff Grubb about our memories of Gen Cons past. And while we chatted I began a cartoon homage to the cover art for this year’s program book. It’s a gorgeous art nouveau style piece by artist Megan Lara, and it was a heck of a lot of fun to stretch my cartoony drawing skills to try to capture that ornate, decorative style of art.
I’m really looking forward to getting back to this piece and seeing it brought to completion!
While I work, I’ll be telling stories and answering questions. We’ll be streaming live at 6pm Pacific on Wednesday, November 19… so join us in the live chat room if you can. But if not, remember that you can always find the replay over on my YouTube channel.
If you’re enjoying the show, please consider sharing it with other folks you think would like it, too. Word of mouth is the BEST way to help the show grow.
And please do consider upgrading your subscription. You’ll get access to process videos for all of the art produced on the show and discounts on all art prints and other show-related merch. Plus you’ll be helping to keep the show going and perhaps even expanding.
